Statement: The Norristown Bell Credit
Union is a member owned and operated organization. Our mission is
to promote thrift and provide financial services to assist our members
in meeting their economic needs. In achieving these goals, we will
seek to maintain the credit union’s long term financial stability
while continuing our credit union’s philosophy of “Member
Helping Member.”
Our credit union was originally chartered in 1940 by Bell Atlantic (formerly known as Bell of PA, now Verizon). Tired of the poor service offered by local banks and other financial institutions, the credit union was formed to provide better loan and savings rates, as well as the personal financial attention they felt everyone deserved. With the merger of the Montgomery County Postal Credit Union in 1987 as well as the merger of ABCON Credit Union in 1999, Norristown Bell Credit Union grew. We continued to grow through the addition of new sponsor groups and family members. In June 2010, the credit union was granted a community charter to serve all persons who live, work, worship, attend school in, volunteer in, and businesses in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. We now serve about 5,000 members.
Our success is your success as we share our earnings with our members
though our unique services. The more of these services you use,
the more you could save. To join, you must open a Share (savings)
Account by paying a 25-cent lifetime membership fee per member and
then depositing and maintaining as little as a $5.00 minimum balance
in the account. That low minimum balance is your share in the credit
union and allows you to be immediately eligible for the many benefits
of membership. Once a member, you’re welcome to remain a credit
union member for life, regardless of whether you change jobs, move
or retire. You can access credit union financial products and services
by mail, phone, fax, Internet and through thousands of ATMs nationwide.
Credit Unions like ours are members of a nationwide system established
by an Act of Congress. NBCU is chartered and supervised by the Pennsylvania
Department of Banking. In addition to supervision by the Pennsylvania
Department of Banking and because we hold federal insurance, we
are also supervised by the National Credit Union Administration
(NCUA). The Pennsylvania Department of Banking performs annual examinations
of NBCU’s records, policies, and procedures. This ensures
the Credit Union’s financial soundness and verifies operations
are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
In addition to the annual examination by the Pennsylvania Department
of Banking, the Credit Union is subject to an annual supervisory
audit, performed by an outside auditing agency, for the purpose
of reviewing the performance of officials, employees and the general
operations of the Credit Union.
NBCU is a full service financial center where our members come first. We are dedicated to helping our members reach their financial goals. That’s why you can always expect quality financial products and services, and the professional, confidential, and courteous service you deserve. Once you have become a credit union member, you can invite your Montgomery County friends and neighbors to join. Your entire community, including all persons who live, work, worship, attend school in, volunteer in, and businesses in Montgomery County, are eligible to join our credit union.
Best of all, your credit union share deposit accounts are insured
per type, up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration
(NCUA), an agency of the U.S. Federal Government. IRAs are separately
insured for up to $250,000 as are custodian and trust accounts.
